Happy Summer everyone!! With 32 days of camping and trailer living behind us we had an amazing summer and are so grateful to be able to share so much time as a family together. Jon is back to work and the girls and I are enjoying seeing our friends again, hitting up some playgrounds and getting back into the swing of things….oh, and working our way through a mountain of camping laundry! I’m very thankful for my working washing machine and the sunny weather for some extra drying space on the deck. I don’t want to say “good bye” to the lazy summer days quite yet but I’m looking forward to what September is going to bring!
This morning, I’m putting on my “teacher hat” and am getting to the exciting business of looking through my newest piano lesson resources, reorganizing a few things and planning out the new year! This year students can look forward to NEW GAMES (yes, even the older students will get off the bench for some hands-on, game-based learning), NEW MUSIC (I’ve been busy collecting a lot of repertoire over the summer months and I can’t wait to share it with you!), and NEW STUDIO EVENTS (more performance opportunities! (Stay tuned for more information in the calendar to come!)
Frequently Asked August Questions:
When do lessons start? Mark your calendar! Fall term of lessons will begin on the SECOND week of SEPTEMBER (Sept 10/11). I’ll be confirming schedules in the next week so please keep an eye on your emails and check the dates for which you are scheduled. Let me know if you see any conflicts.
What should I bring to my lesson? a lined notebook in which we can write lesson notes and assigned "homework".One ~1" binder with 4 dividers (to be labelled at the first lesson)music books (if you have them)a pencil (if you choose)If you will be waiting for a sibling, please bring a quiet activity to do on the couch while you wait.
How can I prepare for my first lesson? Summer is full of family fun and this might mean that your child(ren) may not have been practicing as much as they do during the school year. This is understandable 🙂 I can promise, however, that your children will be even more excited about returning to lessons if they feel prepared and ready to learn. Setting up a practice schedule for the weeks leading up to the return of lessons is a great idea. An idea would be to plan for at least 15 minutes of practice a day during the last few weeks before lessons and, if possible, schedule it in the morning before the day’s activities begin. …..and don’t forget to clip those nails!
