HI studio family! This newsletter is coming a bit late butā¦better late than never I always say! š Persistence is key! The other day, the power went out for a few hours. My children embraced the moment, grabbed their headlamps and carried on making music! Students, I encourage you to keep working at your music, even on the tough days! You will persist and achieve!!

FEBRUARY PRACTICE TRACKER CHALLENGE!
I am doing this challenge again this year but have AMPED it up! Colour in 3 squares each time you practice your repertoire and technique AND colour in three MORE squares for each time you go through your flashcard pack TWO times! Doing daily flashcard practice is an excellent way to improve note recognition!!! Letās DO THIS! Due first lesson back in March - That lesson will include a flash card/note recognition quiz. We will continue to work on our note recognition throughout that month and will conclude with a final quiz to see our progress before Spring Break.
SCALE KARATE!!
Iām so excited about this demonstration of learning!!! Please continue to encourage your student to warm up with their scale(s)/triads/arpeggios each time they practice. Here are some questions you can ask as a parent to participate in practice and encourage learning at home:
⦠āHow many sharps/flats are in your scale?ā
⦠āWhat finger does it start on in the right/left hand?ā
⦠āCan you show me hands together, slowly?ā
⦠āHave you tried it with a metronome?ā ( 80 bpm is the tempo needed to pass the level)

Practicing Tip of the Month: Be Consistent With Fingering!
As soon as you start learning a new piece, find the best fingering that works for you stick with it. One of the most unproductive ways to practice is to practice something differently each time! When you ignore the proper fingering and you spend valuable time practicing your music incorrectly, youāll just have to spend more time going back and learning it the correct way! It may take more patience from the start, but take it slow and be wary of the fingering from the start! ;) (adapted from: https://www.musicnotes.com/now/tips/10-piano-practice-tips/)

Thank you to all of you for your continued support and references!
