The season for change is upon us and, while I’m sad summer is coming to a close, I’m looking back on amazing memories made and looking forward to new experiences, new routines and seeing my students again….IN PERSON!!! (fingers crossed!) I’ll still be offering ONLINE lessons but am also happy to offer in-person lessons as well…and I have a new studio!! I have reno’d and reorganized our third level room over the past few months and now have a DEDICATED SPACE to call my music and teaching space! I have a midi keyboard (for recording and online lessons) and an electric piano and all of my books, binders, games and supplies all around with easy access! I’m so excited!! My students will still have access to my acoustic piano but I’m just SO excited for this dedicated space to make music and teach.

I have plenty of NEW MUSIC, NEW MUSIC GAMES and NEW STUDIO EVENTS And INITIATIVES planned for this year! I’m so excited to begin again!

This coming month in the studio:

  • A NEW STUDIO SET UP!

  • ***Prizes for SUMMER POPSICLE CHALLENGE** (returning students)

  • Intro lessons and review fun!

  • Fun Fall Music Theory worksheets in class

  • NEW GAMES!

  • Weekly ear training exercises!!

More to come this term!

  • Composing

  • Landmark Note Review

  • Games!

  • Practice Initiatives!

Studio COVID protocols:

  1. COVID screening - please do not come sick!! I will expect my students/parents to review the Alberta Health Daily Checklist right before they come to an in-person lesson. Here is a link to the document: https://tinyurl.com/dsut7663

  2. Masks (for all ages) will be required upon entering my home and during the lesson. If this is a concern for you, please contact me directly. I will use a mask as well.

  3. Hand sanitizer will be at the door and in the studio and I ask that you use it upon entering and before leaving.

  4. The shared piano(s) and bench will be wiped down between students.

  5. To avoid “close contact” situation, early drop off (or late pick ups) cannot be accommodated. Please arrive no more than 5 mins before your lesson and arrange for prompt pick up. THANK YOU for your COOPERATION and CONSIDERATION!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. When do lessons start? The SECOND week of September (7/8). I have already contacted you with your lesson time but I’ll contact you this week to confirm.

  2. How do I access my ONLINE lesson? You will get a zoom link sent to you before your first September lesson. Please save the information for easy weekly access.

  3. RETURNING STUDENTS: How can I prepare for my first lesson? Summer is full of family fun and this might mean that the student(s) in your home may not have been practicing as much as they do during the rest of the year. This is understandable! I can promise, however, that returning to lessons will be more exciting and smooth for the student that feels prepared and ready to learn. Setting up a practice schedule for the weeks leading up to the return of lessons is a great idea!…..and don’t forget to clip those nails!

  4. NEW STUDENTS: How can I prepare for my first lesson? If you haven’t already, please complete my “IN A MILLION WORDS OR LESS” document for each new student in your household before the first lesson. It’s just a way for me to be the best teacher I can be for you!…..and don’t forget to clip those nails!

  5. What do I need for my lesson?

    • A pencil!!

    • Your music books (if you have them)

    • A lined notebook for lesson notes and assigned "homework".

    • One ~1" binder with 4 dividers (label them: Sheet Music, Theory, Technique/Notes, and Practice.)

    • Your “Practice Kit” (if you are a returning student)

Bits and Pieces:

Payment:

  • ($28/30 min lesson) Requested at or before the first lesson of each month for that month’s worth of lessons. Thank you!

  • Cash, cheque or e-transfer to elzingaja@gmail.com. A late charge of $5 will incur for each week the payment is late.

Cancellations:

  • I require at least 72 hours notice (barring illness or family emergency), otherwise I will charge the lesson fee.

  • If I personally have to cancel a lesson, I will notify you as soon as I can and we can find a suitable time to reschedule/do an online lesson.

Please link to my website and scroll down to the Frequently Asked Questions for more information or contact me. I can’t wait to reconnect with you soon and I look forward to hearing all about your summer fun! - Andrea Elzinga
